چکیده

What are the respective roles of indigenous and exogenous factors in the development of high-tech regions? Entrepreneurs and their start-ups have dominated Silicon Valley’s economy in recent decades, but a different dynamic was at work from 1940 to 1965, when the Valley emerged as a formidable high-tech region. In key industries (electronics, semiconductors, computers, and aerospace) that defined Silicon Valley as a high-tech cluster during that period, companies based elsewhere played critical roles in planting the organizations that would – through the innovations they made, the technical talent they attracted, and the start-ups they spun off – helpmake the Valley theworld’s most admired and emulated

Networks of venture capital firms in Silicon Valley

By comparing the network structure of venture capital (VC) firms in Silicon Valley (California) to that of VC firms in Route 128 (Massachusetts), the present study challenges any market-centred theory of regional development. I show that there are advantages in examining the structure of social networks of cooperation within the venture capital industry to understand the level of development of...

The effect of exogenous silicon on seed germination and seedling growth of wheat cultivars under salt stress conditions

ABSTRACT- Seed germination and early seedling growth are critical stages for plants establishment and production, particularly under salinity conditions. Exogenous application of silicon (Si) can enhance germination as well as seedling growth. In this experiment, the effect of priming with Si (0, 0.75, 1.5 and 2.25 mM sodium silicate) on seed germination and seedling growth under NaCl (0, 100 a...

Bringing the Benefits Home

If you read enough regional reports on international tech development, you start to suspect that somewhere someone has built a successful career on the power of search-and-replace. These reports are strikingly similar. They all have a uniform goal and identify the same elements of a global technology cluster: access to capital, an educated workforce, good infrastructure, a strong local market, ...

Effect of silicon supplementation on wheat plants under salt stress

Heavy metals are the cause of major abiotic stresses in plants and a principal contributor to environmental pollution in recent decades. This study investigated the effects of exogenous hydrogen sulfide on the ascorbate-glutathione cycle in the leaves of coriander seedlings under copper stress. Results showed that copper stress not only reduced APX and GR activities but also decreased leaf AsA,...
